Took a trip to Orlando to support some of my friends and training partners who competed in the WPO Bench Bash. One long ass weekend... caught in a hurricane, which ended the meet abruptly. Was actually hot enough, that I believe Orlando may be very close to hell.
A whole bunch of people were disappointed in the meet, and had a lot to say. We had several lifters there, and everyone sucked it up the best they could. The venue was actually awesome. It was a huge area, complete with a stage. There were 2 warmup benches, and competitors in the first flight were even able to use the competition bench. I really felt that Kieran Kidder did the best under the circumstances he had handed to him.
I have yet to do or hold a meet where everything runs smoothly. We just do the best we can with the conditions at hand. I am very proud of my friends who competed in Orlando. They all put their balls to the wall and made me real happy that I was there to support them.
Congrats to Kieran Kidder, the WPO and all the lifters who showed up in the middle of a hurricane to compete in the Bench Bash. |
