I got back into the gym in October 2003, after a decade away. With some encouragement from friends and other gym members, I competed in and won the overall DE State Womens Bodybuilding title eight months later, in June 2004. During this time I met APF DE State Chairman Broderick Chavez, and started training with him in November 2004. My goals then were primarily bodybuilding, but Broderick was secretly priming me for powerlifting, as he recognized my natural strength abilities. He had me enter my first powerlifting meet in May of 2005 as a prelude to some bodybuilding competitions that summer. Needless to say, I got bit by the "Powerlifting Bug".
I could go on forever here naming names; however my BIGGEST inspiration is truly my training partner and guru, Broderick Chavez, who leaves the outside world at the gym doorstep and transcends into a different place each and every time we step into the gym. It's his belief in me that made me step up and believe in myself.

summary in my own words:
It is May 2006 as I write this. After a recent long heart to head talk with myself, I have decided to put bodybuilding on the back burner in lieu of a quest of crossing into a raw 1200+ total in the 165 lb class by the end of 2006. I realize that competing sans gear will shave off the bigger numbers that I would get if I competed with gear, but I'm satisfied knowing that when I lift, it is all me behind the force.
