I come from a military background, having spent many years in Korea and various spots
around the US. I was always strong and stocky as a youngster and enjoyed athletics.

After my tour of duty in the Army and giving birth to my two children, I went through
rough times where I had battled it out with ovarian cancer. My marriage was dissolved, I
faced raising 2 children alone even though their father and I share equal custody of the
kids. I was extremely overweight. My self esteem had hit an all time low before I realized I
had to take positive control of my future no matter what were to be thrown at me.

I decided to start lifting to lose weight and help rebuild myself. I was determined to be
strong again, not just physically but mentally as well.

I wasn't bitten by the powerlifting bug until I attended an APF meet in New Jersey back in
2004. This is where I saw Bobby Fields for the first time. Little did I know I would find
myself attached to the hip with Bobby months later.

My 2 children, Samantha (9) and Mitchell (8), remind me of my brother and myself during
our childhood years, so this makes being a parent scary but fun too...LOL! I get a lot of help
and support from Bobby raising them. It is finally nice to find someone who shares the love
for the sport of powerlifting, it's lifestyle, as well as one who has no children of his own
willing to be a parent.
summary in my own words:
Powerlifting has provided opportunities for me to meet some really wonderful people,
individuals who are like family to me now (i.e. McCaslin's, Buster & Janis, Mike & Deb,
Metal Militia, so many more). I can't imagine life without them and powerlifting. Some
describe powerlifters as members of a deep, mysterious, underground cult....how cool is
that?
