A few of the women in powerlifting that got/gets me more motivated to excel are Jackie Davis, Amy Weisberger, Shannon Parrish and Jenny Burkey. I have seen them all in competition and they have amazing strength for their physique.

sum it all up for us:
I have been interested in lifting since I was a kid. I remember benching with my brothers in the basement using the old style plastic (sand filled) weights! When I first joined the Powerhouse Gym back in the early 90's, I thought it was the best place going with all their equipment. I used mainly the circuit training equipment and free weights; however every time I went to the gym, I always benched. At the time, doing multiple reps at 85-95 lbs for my size seemed pretty strong and it drew attention from the other members. So I just kept at it and eventually started benching with a group of guys at the Powerhouse. These guys all trained competitively. The first bench press competition I watched was at the Powerhouse in '96. There were a few women that competed in this meet; and the one girl that competed in my weight class (114 lbs) had benched (raw) 115 lbs. After the meet, people had asked me (and I even asked myself) why I didn't compete. At the time, I got my raw bench up to around 145 lbs. The following April '97, I did my first bench meet (raw) out in Utica, NY and got 145 lbs on my second attempt. I started using a Double Poly Inzer Bench Shirt shortly after that Utica meet. The most I got out of the poly was around 25 lbs (which totally sucks) and subsequently ordered a Double Denim Franz shirt. This shirt was sent back a few times for alterations but I never could get it to fit right to use. I wanted to use this shirt for the 2001 Adirondack Bench Wars, however after getting weighed in on Friday before the meet, Bill Crawford and Sebastian Burns had a Double Denim Inzer bench shirt at the Nautilus for me to try. As soon as I put this shirt on, I knew it was the one for me. Bill said I would definitely hit a PR with the Inzer shirt. Well, Bill was right and I ended up benching 180 lbs at the Bench Wars. As far as me getting into triple meets, that's another story. My main interest (forte) had always been the bench press; however, I wanted to do this meet out in York, Pennsylvania, the 2000 Strength Spectacular, which was a full meet. "Can I just do the bench?" I remember asking Mark Chaillet over the phone. Of course the answer was no. I can recall him saying "Come out and do the meet and get your feet wet". So that is when I started to train legs and deadlifting. Up to that point, I had never squatted or deadlifted. Needless to say, my form was terrible. Eventually, in January 2002 I started training with the Metal Militia (MM) at Adirondack Barbell; and it was like starting all over again with my lifting. It was well worth it though as the techniques and training style of the (MM) yield successful results!

highlights:
In 2002 I placed 5th in the overall men's record for the 114 lb class in the bench press. This qualified me to participate in Bench America in Chicago, Illinois on July 5, 2003. To be able to participate in a meet of this magnitude was truly an honor for me. I placed 3rd in this meet with a BP of 250 lbs. Because double denim or poly bench shirts were only permitted at this meet, this forced me to utilize my Karin's bench shirt that I had previously ordered but had a hard time getting it to work. I also did the Saratoga YMCA Bench Press Championships on September 6, 2003. I benched 275 lbs. Although this was an unsanctioned meet, this lift officially supercedes my previous overall record of 267.2 lbs. On October 2, 2004, I tore my pec buring a bench session. This was a major setback because I knew I would be out of the game for a while. Subsequent pec tendon surgery 10/14/04, and about 6 months of recovery before I began any significant lifting. My first meet back was the 2006 APF CandyAzz Classic on 2/18/06 in Tribes Hill, NY. I didn't set any records but I was happy with how my training was going; benched 265 lbs (using a double denim Inzer bench shirt) and pulled 370 lbs, a personal meet best (using an Inzer Max DL). I was feeling strong and felt I had made a 110% recovery. My training continued, honing in on my bench press skills and I started working with an Inzer Double Phenom. I hit the all time bench press record in the 123 weight class on 4/15/06 benching 320, and on 6/24/06 with 330 lbs. I decided to do push/pull at the 6/24 meet and tore my bicep on my second deadlift attempt. Once again, another setback. Since it was just a bicep tear, 6-8 weeks of no lifting was the remedy for the healing. I plan on making a full recovery and continue my training in pursuit of my goals.
other interests:
In addition to lifting, I also enjoy doing cardio to maintain my weight and overall well being. It's good for the mind, heart, body and soul.

My goal is to regain the all-time bench records in the 114 and 123 weight classes. I also want to hit a triple bodyweight bench by early 2007.
